Giving care to someone, no matter how much you love them, can become stressful. Each care giving situation is unique. A good guideline for the caregiver is to be able to provide the needed care without becoming resentful. A caregiver has to look after themselves in order to be able to provide good care for someone else.
Many illness based websites (e.g. Alzheimer, Parkinson, Cancer etc) will have a section on care giving, the stresses on the caregiver, the caregiver’s needs, and potential supports for the caregiver.
Caregiver contact information can be found in the PREVENTION section (pages 23 – 45) of Prevention of Elder Abuse: A Nelson & Area Resource Manual.
