Prevention of Elder Abuse: A Nelson & Area Resource Manual

About Abuse:

This section offers a description of the types of abuse and neglect, how to prevent abuse or neglect and what you can do when you suspect abuse or neglect is occurring.  See pages 7-19.

Prevention:

This section is about staying healthy, connected and planning for your future. This information is meant to support independence and minimize your personal risk of being abused or neglected. See pages 23-45.

Early Detection and Intervention:

This section provides a listing of resources that may help you examine a situation, how it might be changed or what you might want to do. See pages 7-55.

Prevention of Further Abuse:

No one, of whatever age, should be subjected to violent, abusive, humiliating or neglectful behaviour. Abuse includes risk to assets and finances. This section contains contact information for agencies or resources that you can turn to. See pages 57-62.

Urgent Response:

This section describes the resources or the agencies that you can contact when someone’s safety or personal assets are at imminent risk. See pages 63-65.

This section contains handouts and websites for further information. See pages after 67
